Student Member Spotlight: Get to know Lauryn Sims

Where are you from/hometown?

I am from right here in Jacksonville, FL!

How long have you lived in Jacksonville?

My entire life, born and raised.

Tell us what degree you are pursuing and when you will graduate.

I will be pursuing a bachelor's in business administration with a focus in Transportation & Logistics graduating in 2022.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, I plan on marrying my fiancé in April 2023 and seeking a successful career in the transportation and logistics field. Hopefully applying to grad school at the University of Tennessee!

What inspired you to pursue a career in transportation and logistics?

After doing four years of logistics and supply chain management classes in high school and living around the great port in Jacksonville I know logistics was my calling. One good teacher can change everything and for me that teacher pushing me in the direction of transportation and logistics was it!

How long have you been a member of the Propeller Club?

I am not yet an official member but do plan on taking advantage of joining officially when I graduate in 2022!

What is your favorite Propeller Club event?

So far, my favorite event that I have attended was when the Propeller Club came to UNF and brought their members that were also UNF alumni to come to share career advice with us. Their advice was so helpful and I enjoyed hearing them all speak.

Family/Significant Other/Pets?

My biggest source of happiness is my fiancé who is an active-duty Marine currently stationed in Hawaii. He pushes me to be my best self every day and to never stop going after my goals! Oh, and visiting Hawaii when I can is pretty fun too!

What is your proudest moment/achievement?

My proudest achievement so far is graduating from FSCJ with my associate’s degree in the middle of a pandemic. It wasn’t easy and took me lots of hard work and dedication all whilst working and managing a long-distance relationship but I stayed strong and graduated in 2020 (virtually) lol.

Awards: Aside from going to school and being involved in TLS at UNF I am a photographer by night. For the past two years, I have worked for the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island as the lead photographer and assistant creative director. Learning from the pros I gained knowledge in corporate photography, family photography, portraits, and even did an entire wedding!  Being able to capture the perfect moment and see the happy reaction of the client is everything. I pursue my own photography business on the side when I am not at the hotel and look forward to expanding my creative horizons.
