In Memoriam: James W. Coppedge, Sr.

We are saddened to report on the passing of James W. Coppedge, Sr., who served as President of the Propeller Club of Jacksonville during 1964-1965. James W. Coppedge, Sr. died on August 15th after an extended illness.  He was born on October 9, 1928 to Mr. and Mrs. James H. Coppedge.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert E. Coppedge, his sister Barbara Coppedge Auffenberg and his son Robert J. Coppedge.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary J. (Dolly) Coppedge, his daughter Charlotte (Tim) Payne of Gainesville, his son James W. Jr (Bill), (Melissa), his daughter-in-law Mary Jean Coppedge, his daughter Laura (Charles) Skinner, his son Edward (Beth), and his son Paul (Patty), as well as eleven grand children and two great grand-children.He attended St. Paul’s school, graduated from Bolles School in 1946 and from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) class of 1950.  He was president and owner of Diesel Shipbuilding Co. until the property was sold in 1982, at which time he and two of sons organized Coppedge Marine Inc., distributors of marine and Industrial equipment.  He was the President of the Propeller Club, Port of Jacksonville from 1964-1965 and was Presented with the Club's Lifetime Achievement Award on June 19, 2014.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Assumption Early Childhood Learning Center or a Charity of your choice.Family Visitation will be at 9:30 am on Friday, August 24 at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, followed by a 10:00 am Memorial Service.   Burial will take place at a different date and is limited to immediate family only.
