UNF Student Port Member of the Year announced
Propeller Club of Jacksonville scholarship recipient Josh Powell has been named the University of North Florida (UNF) Student Port Member of the Year. Josh is a Jacksonville native and graduated from UNF with his bachelor’s degree in Transportation and Logistics in December 2017. Josh was very involved with the UNF Student Port serving on the Task Force, Task Force Director, and Vice President in his final semester. Josh was very active in the Student Port community service project with Hubbard House as well as the Can Castle Competition to benefit the UNF Lend-A-Wing food pantry. He was awarded the Propeller Club and the Intermodal Association of North America scholarships in 2017.The announcement was made at the recent UNF Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program Spring Banquet.Josh participated in many events in the Transportation and Logistics program such as Career Days and facility tours, and he networked with business professionals in Jacksonville and at the IANA Expo in Long Beach, Calif. in the fall of 2017. His involvement led to three different internships with Total Military Management, Volkswagen Parts Distribution Center and Central Oceans. Before he graduated in December, Josh accepted a full-time offer from Central Oceans to work as a sourcing analyst, developing relationships with vendors across many modes of transportation including ocean, air, rail, truck, barge, crane and rigging, and port terminals.In a thank you letter to the Propeller Club of Jacksonville Board of Governors, Josh expressed his gratitude to the club for the scholarship which helped him realize his lifelong dream of working in the maritime and transportation industry. “I have found where I am truly happy, and the maritime industry has played a huge part in that,” he said.Featured image, Propeller Club of Jacksonville Board Member Mike Sheklin and Josh Powell, Student Port Member of the YearClick here to view more photos from the UNF T&L Spring Banquet.
