Guilherme Namur, who likes to be called “Gil”, is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2000 his family moved to the US and settled in Orlando. After attending middle and high school in Orlando, he earned an Associates degree from Valencia College. Gil spent 2 semesters at the University of Central Florida before transferring to the University of North Florida specifically for the Transportation and Logistics degree. Gil started his degree program at UNF in January of 2014 and immediately joined the Transportation and Logistics Society as a way to become involved in activities and events that would relate to his major. Since TLS is an official Student Port of the Propeller Club of Jacksonville, Gil took advantage of networking events and tours sponsored by the Propeller Club. His hard work led to an internship at Blount Island with Horizon Lines, where he received hands-on experience in the maritime industry along with a TWIC card, JAXPORT card and HAZMAT certification.Gil’s involvement with TLS and the Student Port include leadership positions as newsletter editor, assistant social director and treasurer. He is a frequent volunteer for T&L Flagship Program events and takes advantage of the many opportunities to learn outside the classroom including facility tours, networking events and the T&L Career Day. The last Career Day in February helped Gil land a part-time position with Crowley Maritime and summer internship with JAXPORT.Gil plans to graduate from the UNF Coggin College in the spring of 2016 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in both Transportation and Logistics and Business Management. Clearly an ambitious student, Gil added minors in Economics and International Business to his program of study. He aspires to pursue a professional career in the maritime industry after graduation. In recognition of his service to the Student Port and the UNF T&L Flagship Program and his passion for the maritime industry, I am honored to name Guilherme Namur the Propeller Club Student Port Member of the Year.
